Foundation | TDXO Drugstore Makeup
Alright, we need to take a second here, because foundation tends to have a bad rap when it comes to the makeup world.
Too often, there's a fear of "looking cakey" or "wearing too much makeup," but in my VERY HONEST OPINION, these fears can be squashed simply by finding the best foundation for your skin type (this includes shade, don't come for me, eeeeeek). If you fall into this category, you are also probably afraid of that dreaded "line" of foundation on your jawline. (You know what I'm talking about here). It screams "I am wearing too much makeup, and I don't know what I am doing."
We want to look flawless but we don't want the world to know that we have spent our morning covering up our flaws. This is extremely attainable these days. If you are in the market for a traditional foundation, the world is your oyster. Foundation has come a LONG LONG way since the year 2000 where orange was the most prominent shade to compliment our icy blue eyeliner. Almost every brand - even drugstore brands (wink wink, nudge nudge) - has something pretty decent to offer. It is simply a matter of finding the one that works for you!
Before I jump into my favorite drugstore foundations below, let's also cover the different options of foundations you can implement into your makeup routine.
Tinted Moisturizer - if you're mixing a little bit of foundation into your morning moisturizer: STOP THE MADNESS. This is already done for you and readily available! These products will even out skin tone, give a little bit of coverage for redness, and give your face a healthy glow and a nice dose of SPF.
Powdered Foundation - if you're oily and terrified of creams or liquids, this is your jam. But make sure to pick carefully because having an inch of mineral makeup on your face defeats the purpose of looking *flawless*
Liquid Foundation - the name explains itself. But when you find your PERFECT match for your skin tone and shade, the results are *chefs kiss.* While there's so many different options on the market, don't be scared to find a ride or die product. Chances are, you're not the only one! I've got my favorite and you'll have to rip it from my cold, dead hands, hehe.
Now that we've quelled your fears and opened the line of conversation around foundations, here's my favorite drugstore products that you can check out without breaking the bank. And in case you need a reminder and you're like: "Hey, Tiff. Why is ULTA included in your drugstore series???" ULTA actually has an entire section in their stores with drugstore makeup! Now you know!
L’Oréal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you will know this is my all-time, everyday holy grail foundation. I went through a phase for about six months last year where I tested new foundations every few weeks. I was on a mission to try a new foundation because I had been using the same foundation for YEARS. I'm talking about since college!
I almost flipped to a new one just for sport because I believed there had to be a better one out there for me with a constant stream of new brands and updated formulas coming out with the latest, greatest foundation.
WRONG! to sum it up best:

True Match- all the wins
It’s a true medium coverage that’s super buildable and easily can be full coverage. But, my favorite thing about this foundation is it has the best undertone match of all the drugstore foundations. I’ve yet to find a drugstore foundation that doesn’t slightly pull either reddish, peach, orange or the opposite and is just too gray/ashy after wearing it for a few minutes.
This does have a dewy, glowy finish so it may be not be your favorite if you have oily/combo skin. Though I, personally, have oily skin and LOVE this finish because it looks so natural EVEN if you built it up to full coverage. For me, I hate the truly “set” look that matte foundation gives me. If you’re over 30 and even have the tiniest of fine lines, matte foundation is much more likely to highlight any texture points.
OKAY, that’s so soapbox on why I love a luminous foundation even with an oily skin type.
L'Oréal True Match Super-Blendable Foundation Makeup
I'm REALLY stepping out of the box here (lol), but my #2 foundation is basically the same product as my top pick with the exception that it doesn’t have a luminous finish.
This is more full coverage, and my go-to for an evening look since it dries down a little more matte which looks great if you plan on taking pics with your friends! That is my only exception for a matte finish.
L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation
The Pro-Glow foundation is very lightweight, which is great if you're gentlyyyy trying to step into the foundation world. It's also buildable with an airbrushed finish. Which is ultimately the goal when wearing foundation, right? Right. This is also perfect if your skin is on the drier side.
L'Oréal Infallible 24HR Fresh Wear Foundation In A Powder
YES, Another L'Oréal foundation. If you haven’t noticed a theme, I think that L'Oréal has the top drugstore foundations! Their formulas are HARD to beat.
This is for all my powder foundation lovers - I GOTCHU. I personally like to use this formula to keep in my purse and touch up my chin, nose and laugh lines when I get oily. It doubles as a blotting powder with some coverage when you’re in a pinch.
It applies with a weightless, creamy texture and the color remains true throughout the day without drying or fading. It's a matte finish for up to 24 hours and suitable for all skin types, oily skin and acne-prone skin!
NYX Professional Makeup Total Control Pro Drop Skin-True Buildable Vegan Foundation
This is a SUPER lightweight foundation that gives your skin a natural finish. It's also a great option for stepping into your foundation game. With the dropper, you can build your coverage from sheer to full. More drops = more coverage!
These foundations are fantastic because you can also customize them fully. You can keep one of the “hue” shifters handy to basically do whatever you need to to customize your look. lighter, darker, cooler, warmer, or add in some glow! Which is perfect if your skin tone changes dramatically during the seasons or if you tan regularly. An additional added bonus is that this formula is 100% vegan as well.
